The first to come to the shelter were Shih Tsu's Taavi and Trella, who "had been kept in terrible conditions, cramped in filthy cat crates in their owner’s bathroom," AWLA said. The owner surrendered them and they both went on to find loving homes.
Then came Stormy, a dog with a broken leg whose owner neglected to provide the necessary care, causing her leg to become necrotic. Stormy's leg was so damaged that it ultimately was amputated. Stormy has made progress in a foster home and will soon be adopted.
Chihuahas Leo and Giselle, and their puppies came into AWLA's care not long after Stormy, when Concerned neighbors reported seeing someone abusing Leo. When AWLA officers arrived to investigate, they discovered Leo, Giselle, and two tiny puppies, AWLA said.
"Leo had a broken leg, but his owner refused to seek medical help. That’s when our amazing Animal Control officers stepped in and took action," the organization said. "Leo’s leg was splinted, and he was placed in a foster home where he could rest and receive lots of TLC. He’s healing well and will be ready to be neutered and made available for adoption soon. Giselle and her puppies also found foster homes, where they’re growing bigger and cuter every single day!"
Finally, Archie, an emaciated English bulldog, was found living in the back of a pickup truck. His owner ultimately surrendered him and officials put him on a special diet to help him gain weight and strength. His personality is starting to shine, officials said.
